Late last year White Lodge were invited to support Los Pintar at an intimate show they hosted in Bangalow, New South Wales. We took an immediate liking to the rock ‘n’ roll duo, comprised of Emma and Jordy, and soon became friends. We had lots in common, including a love of old music and analogue equipment. A few months later we visited them at their home in Wilson’s Creek, New South Wales. The pair lived in a small chapel at the top of a steep, winding hill with their pet Labrador, Port. Jordy had recently bought some expired 70’s tape for his Tascam 388 reel-to-reel, and invited us to come put it to good use. So on a hot summer’s day, fuelled on Jordy’s home-brew beer, we recorded Heading Home To Die in a live take. The track is a sort of warped tribute to / interpretation of the melodramatic pop-songs of the 50’s and 60’s. The session was a surreal experience, sweaty and drunken, surrounded by a sea of trees in an old wooden house of god. In classic White Lodge form, we were a bit unprepared for this session and for a few months we’ve been unsure whether to let it see the light of day. But here we are, in agreement that Heading Home To Die has a certain charm, warts and all, and captures a very definite energy and mood. The release is not to be considered as a hot new single, but simply as a snapshot of a truly noteworthy day and special union for the band.

Cycles of fear eating away at self
Another 24 hours wishing I was somebody else
Mental-stability hanging from a tight-rope
Clutching at straws, don't know if I can cope

Now I'm tired of lotus eating, I'm sick of acid sweat
I've started eating better, I even quit the cigarettes
But with an ice-age in my chest, I can't sell myself the lie
And tonight I'm heading home to-

Heading home to die

And darling I thought things may work out this time
And I assure you, these aren't crocodile tears I'm crying
And your silence hasn't gone unnoticed
And with a constant headache, all of my thoughts have skewed - skewed unfocused
And I guess well, I should just accept my fate
Into darkness, down in flames, bound in chains, I guess I'll never wake
And I'll be stewing with the souls below
There'll be no further that I can go
And hey I know, I was born free, but there was never any light for me

I'm going home to be alone
I'm going to die alone
